![]() ![]() ![]() The Ifa priest, Ogun priest, and others like them are portrayed in the text as mouthpieces of the gods. Findings of the study revealed that the thematic notion of destiny and fate embodies the manifestation of supernatural forces in the text. ![]() The work presents an objective text-based analysis of supernatural forces in the play with the knowledge of the Yoruba societal worldview and belief system. The Deconstruction theory was adopted as the theoretical framework for the study. Its artistic framework including the plot preoccupation, style, characters, and setting of the play is particularly rooted in the African-Yoruba traditional worldview. The play is an adaptation of Sophocles' famous Greek classic tragedy 'Oedipus Rex' but with an African traditional background. This paper examined the representation of supernatural forces in Ola Rotimi's The Gods Are Not To Blame. ![]()
